Important Questions About Factory Repairs
What are the advantages of a high degree of vertical integration for complex repairs?
When winding, machining, assembly, and testing are coordinated and readily available, interfaces and waiting times can be reduced. Findings can be directly coordinated between the relevant departments. This simplifies scheduling, quality control, and responses to additional damage. However, a clear work and testing plan for the specific order remains crucial.
What information do we need to take delivery of a large or heavy machine to the factory?
Important factors include dimensions, weight, center of gravity, lifting points, and information on transport routes and access. Additional information is needed regarding operating fluids, contamination, disassembly status, and required safety measures. We also clarify which documents, auxiliary structures, and lifting equipment are required. This allows for the safe preparation of transport, unloading, storage, and assembly areas.
How does the initial assessment process work after a machine arrives at the factory?
Upon receipt, we document the delivery condition, markings, and any visible defects. Disassembly, cleaning, measurement, and testing are carried out according to the agreed scope of the inspection. Any additional damage is recorded in a traceable manner before the scope of repairs, schedule, and costs are adjusted.
What acceptance criteria should be agreed upon before a factory overhaul?
Clear specifications regarding the scope of testing, target values, tolerances, documentation, and potential customer acceptance procedures are essential. Depending on the machine, electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, or thermal parameters may be relevant. Early agreement on criteria prevents misunderstandings and determines the necessary test bench capacity.
When should a machine be repaired at the factory instead of exclusively on-site?
Factory repair is advisable when extensive disassembly, winding work, heavy mechanical processing, or controlled testing conditions are required. Occupational safety, cleanliness, accessibility, and the necessary lifting equipment can also favor workshop-based repairs. Therefore, we first determine which tasks can remain on-site and which can be performed more efficiently and safely at the factory.
