Home 9 Services & Benefits 9 Test fields for electric motors up to 800 kW
In our modern test facilities, we put the entire range of reconditioned electric motors up to 800 kW through their paces before delivery. In addition, we offer comprehensive special tests - according to your requirements and specifications. For permanently reliable function and the best possible safety.

Our services at a glance:

  • Performance of load tests and heating runs (up to approx. 800 kW) of asynchronous motors, synchronous motors and DC motors
  • Use of different loading devices (regenerative operation and eddy current operation)
  • Carrying out the standard measurements with a frequency of 50 Hz (on request also 60 Hz)
  • Temperature measuring device with 16 temperature sensors according to PT100 standard for various evaluations
  • Availability of special devices for individual applications - for example: matching transformers for special voltages, gearboxes for speed matching or various frequency converters for variable frequencies
  • Digital processing and documentation of all measurements (both in tabular and graphical overview)
  • Carry out the following work from the measurement data obtained:
  • Determination of the equivalent circuit
  • Determination of the maximum power
  • Conversion to other voltages and frequencies
  • Calculation of the torque and speed curve
  • Determination of the short circuit values and the tightening torque

Important questions regarding the testing of electric motors up to 800 kW

When is a load test, rather than a simple no-load test, useful for an electric motor?

An idle test confirms basic functions but only provides a limited picture of behavior under real load. A load test is useful when temperature, current draw, torque, efficiency, or control behavior need to be verified under defined conditions. The scope of the test and the load levels depend on the repair, the machine, and the agreed-upon acceptance procedure.

What does a warm-up run show on a repaired electric motor?

The warm-up test shows how temperatures develop at the windings, bearings, and other measuring points under a defined load. This provides information about cooling, losses, and thermal reserves. Defined measuring points, operating conditions, and permissible limits are crucial.

What are the equivalent circuit diagrams and torque and speed curves needed for?

The equivalent circuit diagram describes the electrical behavior of the motor and allows for the derivation of further parameters. Torque and speed curves help to assess whether the start-up and operation are suitable for the intended application. The calculations are derived from the agreed-upon measurement data and documented in the test report.

What data do we need to plan an engine test up to 800 kW?

We require the nameplate information, design type, power rating, voltage, frequency, speed, cooling and bearing specifications, as well as the desired test objective. Additionally, we will clarify the connection, coupling, direction of rotation, sensor configuration, customer-specific setpoints, and the required report. Special frequencies or voltages must be technically coordinated in advance.

How do frequency and voltage supply affect the results of a motor test?

Frequency and voltage determine the motor's speed, magnetic load, and operating characteristics. If test conditions differ from those of the intended use, conversion and limits of interpretation must be clearly documented. We select the power supply to ensure that the agreed-upon test objective is achieved as directly and reproducibly as possible.
