Important questions about the maintenance and modernization of diesel and gas engines
How do we determine the appropriate time for an overhaul of a diesel or gas engine?
We consider operating hours and maintenance intervals together with the actual machine condition. Performance data, temperatures, vibrations, oil and fluid findings, as well as visible wear characteristics, can provide additional information. For critical systems, availability and planned downtimes are also factored into the scheduling. This results in a needs-based maintenance plan rather than a decision based solely on the calendar.
What do we examine in a feasibility study for converting a CHP plant to biofuels?
We investigate whether fuel properties, engine, fuel system, materials, control units, and auxiliary components are technically compatible. We also consider necessary modifications, operating characteristics, maintenance requirements, and economic impacts. Permitting, emissions, and safety requirements must be clarified on a project-specific basis. This allows us to determine whether and under what conditions a conversion is feasible.
When is modernizing an internal combustion power plant more sensible than a complete replacement?
Modernization can be worthwhile if key machine components are technically sound and availability, efficiency, or fuel flexibility can be improved through targeted measures. We compare the scope of the upgrade, spare parts availability, remaining service life, downtime, and future operating requirements. If essential systems are worn out or new requirements can only be met with disproportionate effort, a new plant may be more economical.
What operating data do we need for an initial condition assessment of a diesel or gas engine?
We need information such as engine type, operating hours, load profile, maintenance and repair history, and current performance, temperature, and consumption data. Fault messages, oil or coolant findings, exhaust emissions, and unusual noises complete the picture. From this, we determine which inspections or measurements are advisable before deciding on an overhaul.
What role does oil analysis play in the evaluation of an internal combustion engine?
An oil analysis can provide information about wear particles, contaminants, fuel or coolant contamination, and the condition of the lubricant. It becomes particularly informative when compared with previous samples and the respective operating hours. We use it as a component of condition assessment, not as a sole diagnostic tool.
